My problem is cofiguring a printer to work for me. I have a Kodak AIO which, after plugging it into the usb port on my rig ubuntu installed the printer driver for it with no problem, or so I thought it prints a test page but thats it, I just get blank pages printing from anything ie LibreWriter, sublime text or NetBeans. My questions are: 1 what do I do now, how do I get it to work with my apps?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for instructs or explain what I need to do so I can get printing. It should not have been necessary to install c2esp from this site. It would be included in ubuntu That allows you to check and change printer installations. Try to determine which test page you printed. There is the printer's self test page you can make that print from the control panel on the printer and it will have kodak written at the top , and there is the ubuntu test page which is a file that is printed using the cups printing system.
If you printed the ubuntu test page then you have a cups driver that works. One possible reason to get blank pages would be having a driver for the wrong series of printers. Try to eliminate the possibility that the problem is caused by a usb3 port, can you connect to the printer by wifi? It is unlikely that the problem is simply the driver. Since the ubuntu test page printed, the driver is basically working. I think the really interesting result is the libreWriter document where the image printed, but the text did not. What happens when you print is that libreWriter prints to some format most likely it is postscript or pdf.
Them cups uses some filter or several filters one after another to convert that format into cups raster format. The c2esp driver then converts the cups raster data into data that can be sent to the printer. So Ican only see 2 ways that librewriter would print an image, but no text: 1. The black ink is not printing, assuming the text was black, because the ink has run out, or the black part of the print head is not working. Did you get black on the ubuntu test page? Something is wrong with the filters that convert the libreWriter output into cups raster format.

It has new ink combo pack so ink level is full. Since I caught this printer at a good sale price so I bought 2 of them, my daughter has the other one she's going to bring it over this weekend so I will try that one to make sure its not the printer. I find that I can print images from an image viewer OK, but pdfs have problems as does libreoffice.
On one machine I can sometimes print PDFs OK in black and white, but in colour the colours are messed up and the page offset to the left. From another it just prints blank pages. This is a Kodak ESP1. Printing the ubuntu test page has no problems. I have had no problems printing on other printers from the same setup. If this is a cups problem, does anyone know of an issue I can follow?
I cannot really support this project anymore. I no longer have any Kodak printers running, so it's difficult to do any tests to try and reproduce anyone's problems. These drivers have been part of cups, for printing, and sane, for scanning, for many years now. It might be possible to get some support from the cups or sane projects, particularly if the problem is likely to be something to do with the filter chain rather than the driver. Oh no!
